This year, Carnival 2011 in Barcelona begins on thursday March 3rd until wednesday March 9th. Carnival in Spain begins with the “Greasy Thursday”, when people use to eat a lot of food in street markets.

Carnival 2011 in Barcelona:

One of the main Carnival activities in Barcelona is the traditional “Rua de Carnaval” (Carnival street), at Paral-lel Avenue in Sants neighborhood, on March 5th, at 8:00 pm (duration: 2 hours aprox). People wear costumes and masks during Carnival in Barcelona. If you want to get a costume for Carnival in Barcelona, go to one of the popular costume stores in Barcelona, such as Party Fiesta, located at La Maquinista, Glories, Diagonal Mar and L’Illa shopping malls, Welcome Fiesta (Valencia 508), Atuendo for Fun (Roger de Lluria 27), and Disfraces Meñique (Provença 224).

Carnival ends on Ash Wednesday, March 9th, with the traditional “Funeral of the Sardine”, that represents the death of the Carnival King, who is buried in a singular parade with a procession dressed in black.

Wednesday March 09th: Procesion and burial of Carnival King, the burial takes place at Les Barques beach.
