The Casa Batlló in Barcelona was designed by architect Antoni Gaudi, leader of Catalan modernism; in fact, it was a remodeling of an existing building, work of Emilio Sala Cortés. It is located in the Paseo de Gracia, a wide avenue running through the modernist neighborhood of the urban expansion area (L’Eixample in Catalan), that also houses works of other modernist architects such as Josep Puig i Cadafalch, Luis Domenech i Montaner and Enric Sagnier i Villavecchia. If you wish to be near of all these phenomenal works of art, look for accommodation in L’Eixample.

The engineer Jose Batlló Casanovas was the one who asked Gaudi to take on the work. The sandstone of Monjuic was chosen to build the facade, the woodwork is full of curves, the windows have circular forms and are made of stained glass, and the columns have vegetable shapes. The old furniture designed by Gaudi is currently shown in the Casa-Museum Gaudi in Park Guell.
