The Chamberí area is located in the heart of the capital; place where the celebrations of the Virgen del Carmen in Madrid 2012 used to take place. This is where everything happens, in the surroundings of the Plaza Vieja and around the streets of Bravo Murillo and Santa Engracia. The strangest thing is that even if it is the Virgen del Carmen who is celebrated, the procession take place next to the Church of Santa Teresa and Santa Isabel and the religious picture of her is there too. This can be explained by the fraternity of the Virgen del Carmen which decided to move far from the Puerta del Sol in the 19th century and decided to make the Virgen del Carmen landlady of the district of Chamberí.

The celebrations in the honor of the Virgen del Carmen are officialy celebrated on the 16th of July, but as many religious celebrations this is the opportunity to extend the festivities for few days. That’s why, we can say that there are many things to do during the summer in Madrid.
