Probably not a lot of people  know that the cosmopolitan city of Barcelona is also host to numerous processions on the occasion of Easter. In fact, although the most popular processions are held in parts of Andalusia, in Barcelona take place two important and significant processions, so it is also very common to find this while you are searching for Barcelona Tourist Info or Barcelona apartments for rent at this time of year.

So if you’re planning to spend Easter in Barcelona, which this year will begin on March 24 (Palm Sunday), you should take note of the following:

  • Procesión de la  Pontificia y Real Hermandad y Cofradía de Nazarenos de Nuestro Padre Jesús del Gran Poder y María Santísima de la Esperanza Macarena. This brotherhood makes two processions on the occasion of Easter. The first one in Palm Sunday and the second during the afternoon of Good Friday (the 29th of March this year). The Good Friday procession is probably the one that attracts more faithful believers. Starts around 17:00 hrs and ends at 22:30. They take two images: Jesús of Great Power and the Virgin of Esperanza Macarena. It is usually accompanied by music, and besides it meets at the Cathedral around 20:00 hrs with the Procession of Our Lady of the Anguishes. Starts and ends at Sant Agustí Square.
