A bit of Eixample history:

L’Eixample born as the widening of the city, to link the Old City of Barcelona with the neighbor town of Gracia. This district grew around the emblematic Paseo de Gracia, avenue for linking this two areas, created in late XIX century.  Some of the most important modernist monuments were built next to Paseo de Gracia, by request of  the catalonian bourgeoisie

Modernist Architecture in L’Eixample:

One of the most relevant relevant places to admire modernist architecture in the city is the popular “Manzana de la Discordia” (The block of Discord) located in Paseo de Gracia, between Consell de Cent and Aragó streets, where you’ll find the famous Casa Batlló and Casa Mila (La Pedrera) by Antonio Gaudí, Casa Lleó Morera, by Domènech i Muntaner and Casa Amatller by Josep Puig i Cadafalch. However, the main modernist monument in Barcelona is the marvelous Sagrada Familia church, still under construction, designed by Antonio Gaudí, located at Sagrada Familia neighborhood.

Shopping in L’Eixample:

One of the main open malls in the city is located all along Paseo de Gracia avenue, where you’ll find store of the most named designers and brans, such as  Louis Vuitton, Hugo Boss, Dolce & Gabbana, Tiffanys, Jimmy Choo, Guess, Diesel, Pronovias, Tous, and more affordable stores, like Inditex branches (Zara, Massimo Dutti, Bershka, Stradivarius), MNG, H&M, Friday’s Project, among many others.

Party in L’Eixample:

If you want to go out in this area, we suggest you several places in L’Eixample: 625 Discoteque (Enric Granados, 52) with varied kind of music and no cover; Mojito Club (Roselló, 217), to dance with the rhythm of salsa, merengue and other latinoamerican music; El Gran Foc (Roger de Llúria, 23), very nice bar with varied music and special promotions and where you’ll find delicious mojito cocktails; Michael Collins Irish Pub (Plaza Sagrada Familia, 4) with live performances on thursdays and fridays; and Roxy Blue (Consell de Cent, 294), always with party mood, buy very crowded.

Gayxample in Barcelona:

At Eixample district there is an area colloquially known as Gayxample, with many gay and gayfriendly pubs and discos. SOme of them are: the very chic and trendy cocktail bar Dacksy (Consell de Cent, 247), the popular Cangrejo, always crowded and with good music (Villarroel, 125); Arenas disco, with different rooms with different kinds of music  (Arena VIP located in Gran Vía 593, and Arena Classic located in Diputació 233), The Sky Bar, located at Axel Hotel, with great city views (Aribau 33), Aire – Sala Diana, for lesbians (Valencia 236), among others.
