Barcelona is a city that has much to offer and is suitable for all budgets as well. Of course you can make it as expensive as you want, but there is no shortage on activities and events in the city that provide enough entertainment. With summer approaching, we went and tried to find out what free summer activities are scheduled for the upcoming months so that you can explore the city without spending a single coin. We have tried to conduct a complete list below. We have different options for cheap accommodation in Barcelona and Barcelona apartments. Free holidays:

  • San Juan The night of June 23, Barcelona will be celebrating the eve of San Juan. The beginning of summer will be inaugurated and therefore bonfire, fireworks and parties down the street are made to make it a night to officially start this wonderful season.
  • La Merce One of the Patron saints of Barcelona is La Merce, derived from the Roman Catholic feast ¨Our Lady of Mercy¨. The Correfoc, giant parade, the Castle Competition, Cava, concerts and people dancing the Sardana down the street are the main ingredients of this week of brilliant celebration. Marks the end of the summer season and therefore held in the 22th – 25th of September.

Free events and festivals in Barcelona:

  • Gay pride The Gay pride Barcelona 2011 will take place from 18-28 June. Barcelona can be called one of the main Gay city in Europe and is very popular under this target group. Lots of parties, music and parades mean a whole lot of fun!
  • Barcelona Harley days Harley Davidson´s biggest urban event in the whole world is the Barcelona Harley Days. Three days long Barcelona will be overwhelmed by enthusiasts from home and abroad.  And of course, it is for free!
  • International Dance Festival in Urban Landscapes This event is part of the Grec Festival, which primarily is devoted to everything which has to do with art, and takes place just down the streets of Barcelona. National and international dance acts/groups come together to show off their moves. They also offer workshops, so everyone can join in. 1-6 July
  • Gracia Festival The feast of the Assumption of Mary is celebrated in the Gracia neighbourhood. The whole area changes as the locals decorate the streets with colourful things like flowers and garlands, musicians make atmosphere by making concert and giving away free concerts. Very nice, village like, festival on August 15.

The bike show experience

The Bike Show Experience, 18 and 19 June 2011, is a festival which attracts enthusiast in bikes, inline skaters and skate boarders. There are competitions, shows and other entertainment which can be very spectacular. Takes place at Parc del Fòrum in Barcelona.

Free parties:

  • If you want to go to one of the famous clubs in Barcelona, we would like to recommend you to visit the ¨YouBarcelona¨ website. You can make reservations for guestlists and this makes entrance is for free.
  • Nits of Cims to Montjuïc (Nights of the Summits in Montjuïc): From May 12 to 01 October, every Thursday, Friday and Saturday you can enjoy a variety of different music concerts such as Jazz, electro, tango, fado, DJs, and more between 20:00 and 2:00.

Free attractions in Barcelona:

Besides the above festivals and events there are, of course, the permanent attractions that can be visited for free. For example the magic fountains in the summer months switched on from Thursday to Sunday between 9:00pm and 11.30 pm and. Or visit one of the beautifully constructed parks in which Park Guell and Park Ciutadella absolutely cannot be skipped.
