La Barceloneta, is one of the most visited place in Barcelona. The main protagonists in this neighborhood are beaches in Barceloneta, that are full of local people and tourists wanting sun and heat. However, Barcelona is a mediterranean city, with a moderate climate, so you will find activities in Barcelona to do the whole year, even in winter. If you love the sea, visit and stay in an apartment in Barceloneta would be an ideal option.

Most tourists visit Barceloneta beaches during summer, because Barceloneta is really near of city center (metro Station Barceloneta, Line 4, yellow). If you spend a summer in Barceloneta, you’ll find small locals expending food and beverages with music on the beach, as well as peddlers (illegal, but very populars) selling sunglasses, beach wraps, sandwiches, henna tattoos, massages, beverages, among other items. One of the most popular peddlers in Barceloneta ins “Bambolino”, an italian guy who sells donuts every summer afternoon, putting a serving plate on his head with many donuts, offering them doing walks, dances and movements, keeping the plate balanced all the time.  You can watch several takes of Barceloneta beach and even a samll participation of “Bambolino” in Shakira’s video “Loca”, shooted in Barcelona.

However, there are also plenty of things to do in Barceloneta in winter. La Barceloneta is a beach for surf practice, specially during winter season, because its strong winds make good waves. Yes, it isn’t the best place in the whole world for surfing, but Barcelona is one of the most important big cities in Europe to practice this sport, in a beach located only 10-15 minutes away from the metro station, and that’s a considerable advantage. If you are interested in practicing surf at Barceloneta, you can check the waves on Coastal Monitoring Station in Barcelona.

Barceloneta is distinguished for its simplicity, sea smell and the clothes hanging from builidings windows and many restaurants. If you are intereseted in Barceloneta history, this area was almost uninhabited until  XVII century, when people living in La Ribera neighborhood where displaced, for the construction of the fortress of  Ciutadella, transforming Barceloneta in a fishers towm.
