Barcelona is characterized by, among other things, the immeasurable number of galleries and art spaces that you can find there. It is impossible to ignore this point in the schedule of activities during your visit to the city. One of the most important art related places is the Picasso Museum, a gallery which houses one of the largest collections of Picasso’s work, featuring the artist’s paintings chronologically. Thus, it is possible to see clearly the different stages that the famous painter went through, how he suffered mental changes due to different events, and in short, to explain the genius who embraces a life devoted to art.

Another gallery that is highly recommended is the Joan Miró Foundation, with more than 14,000 works and a large collection of the Barcelonian artist, Joan Miró. There is also a modest collection of contemporary art by local artists.

Near the Fundació Joan Miró, in the Montjuïc Palace, is the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC). The collection shows, besides a very broad period of Romanesque and Gothic art, the importance of Catalan art as an influence on contemporary art. As if all this was not enough, this museum features an added value: Although it is one of modern art museums in the world, this building is also in itself a work of art, and from its stairs it provides a wonderful view of Barcelona.

An excellent idea to ease your journey through the museums, is to stay in the area where the art galleries are located. What better experience than staying in one of the neuralgic centres of European art and feel part of the creative maelstrom that these spaces invite to? For this, you should consider some of the many apartments in Barcelona that can be rented for a few days or weeks.

One of the most valuable exhibits in Barcelona is located in the MACBA, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, it is ranked number 11 in the most popular attractions in the city and displays works of the second half of the twentieth century and onwards.

If you’re over with the museums and want to go to a real gallery, you can go to Galeria Joan Gaspar, who has presented works by Picasso, Togores, Tàpies, Alfaro, Braque, among others. The gallery is true to the discoverer momentum and has supported the careers of many young artists now recognized.

This is just a small guide to galleries, but there are many more. Some recommendations may help guide the travel itinerary, however, with each walk, each chat, multiple options open up to feed our souls, without missing a chance to admire the fabulous corners of Barcelona.
