One of the most characteristic touristic spots of the city of Barcelona is the street known as Las Ramblas of Barcelona, going from Plaza Catalunya, located in the heart of the city, to the old port (Port Vell).

If you come to town and looking to stay in an apartment in Barcelona center, you should consider the option of staying in apartments at Las Ramblas in Barcelona, since both Las Ramblas, and the surrounding area are full of attractions, such as bars, restaurants, tapas bars, theaters, museums, Port Vell, Maremagnum shopping center, Plaza Real and more. Also, las Ramblas is well connected with the rest of town by public transportation.

Before choosing an apartment at las Ramblas, be aware that La Rambla de Barcelona is not a particularly quiet area; otherwise it is a leisure and commercial hotspot, which is ideal for those who want to be right in the middle of the main attractions of  Barcelona.

The most attractive spots on Las Ramblas are:

At Rambla de Canaletas: This is the first part of Las Ramblas, the closest to Plaza Catalunya.

  • Here you can find the famous Fountain of Canaletes, gathering place to celebrate the victories of FC Barcelona.
  • Tradition says that whoever drinks water from the Fountain of Canaletes, always returns to Barcelona.

At Rambla de los Estudios: Second segment of Las Ramblas, among Canaletes and Rambla de las Flores.

  • Also known as the Rambla of the Birds, as there is a bird market and many sparrows in the treetops.
  • Here you will find the Teatro Poliorama, in which there is a clock that was installed in 1891 and marks the official time for the city of Barcelona.

At Rambla de la Flores or Rambla de Sant Josep: Third segment of Las Ramblas.

  • Do not forget to visit  Mercado de la Boqueria, the city’s main market, which offers many domestic and imported products: note that this is not a cheap market as it is so touristic, but it is worth a visit.
  • Formerly, this was the only part of the city where flowers were sold. Today, you can still find many booths selling a variety of colorful flowers.

At Rambla de los Capuchinos: fourth segment of Las Ramblas

  • Here you will find the famous Teatro del Liceu, where internationally renowned artists perform.
  • You can access from Rambla de Capuchinos to the Plaza Real. The Plaza Real is a beautiful square, with beautiful palm trees that gives a special charm, where you can find several bars, restaurants and cafes. We recommend the restaurant “Les Quinze Nits” (Plaza Real 6), where we always come back because we love the dishes they offer (especially duck) and the prices are quite affordable. Please note that this restaurant gets packed quickly and do not accept reservations, so there may be long waiting lines.

At Rambla de Santa Mónica: fifth segment of las Ramblas.

  • You can see the medieval shipyards (Drassanes in Catalan), which are very well preserved. They are located in front of the Columbus Monument. To visit this Columbus Monument also known as “Mirador de Colón” in spanish. From May 2012 this attraction is not available to the general public.
