 Palace of Communications and Cibeles Fountain
  • Cibeles Square: Located in the intersection of 3 main avenues (Paseo del Prado, Paseo de Recoletos and Alcalá Street), this square is the location for the well-known Cibeles Fountain. Actually, it’s not a square, but to a roundabout that has beuatiful buildings all around. One of them if the Palace of Buenavista (Army Headquarters), the building of the Bank of Spain, the Linares Palace (House of America) and the Palace of Communications (old post office, that right now is the City Hall). Cibeles Square is place for celebrating the victories of Real Madrid football team.
  •  Fountain of Neptune: Located at Cánovas del Castillo Square, this monument was designed by Ventura Rodríguez (who was also the designer of the Cibeles Fountain). It is a rounded square, that has interesting buildings in its surroundings as the Palace of Villahermosa (Thyssen Museum) and the Deputy Congress.

  •  Museo del Prado. (Street Ruiz de Alarcón 23, phone number 91.330.28.00) The National Museum of El Prado was opened for the first time in 1819. Its colection has grown to reach more than 7600 paintings, 1000 sculptures, 4800 stamps and 8200 drawings, witout mentioning the elements of decorative arts that you can also find in this museum. Some of the greatest masterpieces you’ll finde here are Las Meninas (Velazquez) or the Maja Desnuda (Goya). The museum of El Prado opens from tuesday to sunday, from  09:00 to 20:00 hrs. Ticket price: 12 €.
  • Note that the Museo del Prado is part of the Art Triangle in Madrid, together with the  Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía  and Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza and you can go to one museum to the other easily with a short walk. If you plan to visit these three museums, you can buy the  card Paseo del Arte,   for visiting all three museums with a preferential rate of  19.20 €
