One of the most peculiar features of the Sacromonte in Granada is that it has many caves that used to be the residence of the arabs and jewish that had been expelled from the city. Afterwards, these caves became the place to live for the gipsies, and that was the origin of the tradional gipsy parties and zambras in Sacromonte. Nowadays, you can visit some of this caves, because they had been transformed into museums, hotels and restaurants.

To reach the Sacromonte in Granada there are different routes but we suggest you to take the beautiful Carrera del Darro of Granada, a special promenade in one side of the river. Then, take the “Cuesta del Chapiz” until you reach the “Camino del Sacromonte”, that will take you to the Sacromonte Abbey, just in the centre of this neighbourhood. Ar the abbey, built in the 17th century, you will find a interesting museum. If you want to get to Sacromonte by bus, take the bus number 35 at Plaza Nueva and get down at La Abadia station.
