In the autonomous region of Madrid, the 1st of May (to celebrate Labour day in Madrid) and the 2nd of May (to celebrate the autonomous region of Madrid) are official bank holidays. And this year, to enjoy a long weekend in Madrid, they also declared the Monday 30th of June a day off.

This long weekend is an amazing opportunity to stay a few days to Madrid. Besides, on those days, the airline companies offer a lot of deals to travel and you can rent an holiday apartment for days in Madrid so that everyone can take a few days to come to Madrid.

What can you do during this long weekend of May?

It is the perfect time to discover the main touristic attractions of the city such as the Palacio Real, the Retiro´s Park, La Puerta de Alcalá or the Almudena´s cathedral. If you are not a conventional tourist and you prefer to visit other amazing places where there is not so much crowd or if you want to enjoy the weather of May you can spend a day in one the city´s parks.

If you prefer to attend sport events during this long weekend, you will be able to attend the 36th game of the Spanish Liga Real Madrid- Seville FC that will take place on Sunday, the 29th of April in the Santiago Bernabeu´s stadium and if you don´t like crowd you can also watch the game in a bar.

If you like music there are also several options for you during this long weekend of May in Madrid: there are several concert halls where you can enjoy live music. For instance, on Wednesday, the 2nd of May, Isabel Pantoja will perform at the Palacio de los Deportes.

Besides, the long weekend of May in Madrid can also be an opportunity to discover the Marc Chagall´s retrospective called “the path of poetry” which is showed off to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. Also, you can go to the Centro de Arte Canal to admire the exhibition called Da Vinci, the Genius which presents copies of his works, a 3D movie and provides activities for children (everyone will enjoy this exhibition).  If you think about visiting museums you just need to know that some of them will be closed on the 1st of May.
