The Atocha station is located in the Arganzuela Area, in the Glorieta and Plaza del Emperador Carlos V, where important steets coincide like the Avenida de la Ciudad de Barcelona, the Paseo del Prado and The Calle de Alfonso XII and the Calle de Atocha. Very near from the Atocha Station you can find the Queen Sofia Museum, the Prado Museum, the Thyssen-Bornesmisza Museum, the Retiro Park, the Caixaforum Madrid and other interesting places to visit in Madrid so that we advice you to look for an apartment in Madrid in the surroundings.

Moreover, the design of the Atocha train station is unique given the fact that the main building – built in 1851 – was the first rail station of the city. In 1888, after a fire which provoked severe consequences, the Atocha station has been remodeled by Alberto de Palacio who created the iron font that sets the station apart nowadays. Then, with the increasing number of rail lines, new buildings have seen the light and the original edifice became a shopping mall.

Nevertheless, there are not the shops that set the Atocha station apart but the incredible design of its indoor botanical garden. This garden is about 4,000 m 2  and it gathers more than 500 plant species, including carnivorous species. There is also a lake where turtles and tropical fishes live.

Above the botanical garden, you can find the Samarkanda restaurant which is a very special restaurant, not only because it is situated in the Atocha train station but also because it provides high quality food in a unique place. The decoration is meticulous and it counts with a terrace which gives you a beautiful view to the indoor garden. The restaurant provides regular food and also prepares banquets for social or business meetings. A meal costs about 30€ (tel.: 0034.91.530.97.46).

To put it in a nutshell, the Madrid Atocha station is a place you definitely need to go and to stay in to enjoy all the activities provided there. And when you think about renting an apartment in Madrid, you should look for an apartment regarding the location of this station
