The recently opened museum of Earth and Life science Blau opened its doors in an ultra modern new building. Out of curiosity we visited this, in our opinion, special museum.

From the moment you get closer to the museum you see this place is different than usual. The walls are painted black, the windows are small and therefore this building has something mysterious in itself. The design of the building is modern in a futuristic way. We walk past the cash register where, unfortunately, no English brochures are available. Be sure not discourage this, inside the majority of information is available in English.

We get into a long hallway which on one side contains sketches of all kinds of existing and non existing, mostly, animal figures. On the other side a number of seminar and meeting rooms are situated. We walk on until we reach a very special compartment. We have no name for this surreal room, but let´s call it a movie hall of mirrors. The room is a mix of light effects, music and images displayed on the white flooring.

The walls are mirrors, which makes you feel like you’ve stepped into another world. Open up your eyes, ears and sense of feel, because it is very amusing! We were in there for quite a while…

Next to this room is an empty hall is situated which will be used for temporary exhibitions in a later stage.

We move on, or actually back, where we enter the actual museum. It might be different than you’d expect in an Earth an Life science museum as futurism is combined with the actual subject. After entering, we immediately notice a large round screen representing the earth. It shows the development of our planet from the start. A little further, a small room is set up where a video repeatedly shows the history of the earth told in a nutshell. This video is subtitled in English.

We get deeper into the museum where showcases present many different subjects. Topics such as geology, algae, fungi, minerals, molecules, bacteria, plants, animals, fossils and the universe are reviewed. These are all placed in an orderly manner and there are several displays and touch screens with additional information to take the visitor deeper into this world. These screens provide all information in English too.  Throughout the museum other television screens can be found, showing you videos with more information about relevant topics explained by scientists.

This is a learning experience for young and old. We finish our visit with the arrival at the franchised store. Here you can find interesting books, toys, pens and more. Particularly special was the plush in shape of bacteria and fungi like kissing disease, chlamydia, penicillin and herpes. See picture below (don´t tell us you ever seen these elements together just at once)

Yes, this museum surely is an additional place into the list of museums in Barcelona. If you are visiting this city keep this place in mind.
