The city of Barcelona and its surroundings offer the living city environment and in the same time you can enjoy, for example the afternoon, at the beach. Within the city limits there are seven beaches. Outside many more and they are easy to get to by public transport. Why you should get out of town? Well, the atmosphere is totally different and the culture in these villages and cities is interesting to explore.

We have made a selection of the best beaches in Barcelona and its environment.

We start in Barcelona

  • San Sebastián – San Sebastián beach is the largest beach of the city. This beach is located close to the old port and starts at the end of Passeig Joan de Borbo. On sunny days this part of Barcelona can be very crowded of this narrow strip of sand cause many locals walk down here from their apartments. But don´t worry, the atmosphere is always very nice and a good place to meet other people. The atmosphere is good end beach bars offer some background music  and lovely dishes. There are some sportfacilities and the area is easy to reach for disabled
  • Barceloneta – Barceloneta is also close to the old Port of Barcelona and the most famous beach of Barcelona. It is one of the oldest beaches in the city and it can be very crowded too although the strip is a little wider than San Sebastián. Next to the beach is a always busy sidewalk/* boulevards where lots of people take stroll, excersize, play football or riding a skateboard. There are not many Hotels or apartment nearby these beaches and it is easier to find a nice apartment near this area. This area is perfect to rent accommodations near the beach in Barcelona.
  • Nova Icaria – We are going a little further and this is the place where the beach is getting quieter. This makes this beach more suitable for children. There are a lot of facilities available like shops and restaurants and some are open day and night.
  • Bogatell – Another quiet beach is Bogatell. Famous because of the many sport facilities especially for playing volleyball. The average age on this beach is higher than at the aforementioned beaches, but it is a nice mixture of people from all ages. Lots of local too.
  • Mar Bella – Of course the famous nudist beach of Barcelona, Mar Bella. can not be forgotten in our list. This beach was rigged before the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992 and is easy to access. It´s not only a nudist beach, so don´t worry when you coincidentally end up in this area, wearing shorts is no problem. Beach bars are available again which make you stay nice and comfortable.
  • Nova Mar Bella and Llevant – Further away from the city centre the newer beaches of Barcelona can be found. Here you won´t find a lot of tourists and this makes these places more quiet. Ideal to visit with friends to chill out! The Llevant beach a more narrow part, although this is perfect to have some overview. Mac Arena Mar is very cool beach bar, especially during the weekends to chill out until late evening. There are DJ performances and a cocktail bar to serve your tasty demands.
