Barcelona summer 2011 is getting closer and as Barcelona is such a great city we are not worried you will get bored. There is always a lot going on talking about events, festivals, holidays and other leisure activities.

According to the weather, the summer starts early in Spain and we picked four summer months to find out what is going on in town.

Sant Juan´s day

The official take off for the summer season is the midsummer party. In Spain this day is the celebration in honour of San Juan (St. John the Baptist) and takes place in the evening of June 23. Especially Barcelona is one of the most spectacular places to join the fiesta. There are parties organized, usually at beaches, where bonfires are lit and a set of firework displays usually take place. In the Catalonia region special foods such as Coca de Sant Joan are also served on this occasion.

International Dance Festival in Urban Landscapes

In the beginning of July, the urban space in Barcelona lives up because dance artists show their talent down at the street. These days are called ´Dies de Danza´ and is entirely dedicated to dance. This festival takes place during a different festival named ´Grec Festival´. However, this Grec festival lasts longer and is primarily devoted to everything which has to do with art. During the dance festival there are over 50 different groups participating, both local and international groups. There are workshops given which you can join and where you are supervised by professional choreographers.

The bike Show Experience

The bike show experience includes bicycles in all shapes and sizes. Yet, of course, it all has to do with power and goes from dirt track racing to BMX freestyling. The event takes place at the Parc del Fòrum in Barcelona and is filled with two days of competitions, shows and other entertainment. If you plan to visit this event you must know it is possible to rent apartments per day in Barcelona. The Bike Show Experience, 18 and 19 June 2011. Fiestas de la Mercé

To conclude the (also rich festival) summer seasons the Festival de la Merce is scheduled in September. This festival is dedicated to one of the two patron saints of the city, Merce. The whole city is in turmoil with parades, fireworks, real human towers and much more. Actually, this is a festival that every Barcelona lover must have experienced at some point.
