Winter sales in Barcelona are just about going crazy. The winter sale offers so many stores, malls, markets and shops in Barcelona that it has become somewhat of a tradition to go out shopping just after January 6 (the day of the Three Wise Men, or Three Kings, who traditionally leave toys for children). It is the end of the Christmas season and all shops as well as malls in Barcelona begin to lower their prices. This has even become a touristic attraction, concentrating tourists from all around Spain (and the whole world) to go shopping in Barcelona to get the best out of the sales in Barcelona.

In fact, this tradition dates back as far as 1940, when two huge malls began to compete for a place in the customer’s mind. The competition between these two super malls (El Corte Ingles, and the Preciados Galleries) began to lower their prices to attract every customer available. This came up as an opportunity for everyone staying or living in Barcelona to acquire very expensive coats and winter clothes at very low prices (compared to what they would cost during the winter season), because these malls would have to make room for the new clothes coming for the hot seasons. This lowering of prices comes twice a year: first, just after January 6, with the end of the cold season, and the second one, just after summer (when swimsuits and clothes of that sort would have to make room for winter clothes).
