This boulevard of almost 2 km, it is the central axis of Barcelona and the best scenario to know their essence. You will always find walkers of all ages, kiosks of flowers, fruits and birds, travelling theatres, commercial galleries and terraces. It is among the square Catalonia and it concludes at the monument to Columbus, lobby of Port Vell (one of the most important harbours in the Mediterranean).
This singular street takes five names, beginning in the “Rambla de Canaletes”(where one should drink its water in order to transform itself in, “Barcelonés”, “Rambla dels Estudis” (name that its was granted due to the built building by the middle of the XV century), the “Rambla de les Flors” (only place of Barcelona in the XIX century where flowers were sold. The following tract is the “Rambla del Centre” (also known by Rambla of the Cappuccinos by the old convent of friars cappuccinos). Concluding, “Rambla de Santa Monica”, portal of the harbour.
The Ramblas is the place where are settle down the food and flowers markets that are aligned with the bookstalls and magazines. They are full of life, with a wide selection of bars and restaurants. We find walking through them, the noted Theatre Liceu and the famous “Mercat de la Boquería”, the most emblematical of the whole city.
Without doubt, it is an obligated walk for whom who is visiting Barcelona.
